Erasmus+ RELIABLE: AI Tools for Pedagogical Support at FHM Bielefeld (1st day)

As part of the Erasmus+ project RELIABLE, the training programme “Teacher Mobility and Training – AI Tools for the Pedagogical Support of Students” is being held at Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) in Bielefeld, Germany.

The training brings together professors from partner higher education institutions across the Western Balkans, providing an opportunity for international exchange, practical work, and joint exploration of the potential of AI and LLM tools in teaching, learning, research, and student support.

The programme began with an introductory lecture by Prof. Dr. Henning Duderstadt, followed by a hands-on workshop delivered by Prof. Dr. Stefan Bieletzke, entitled “AI Tools at FHM: A Hands-On Workshop.” Through practical activities and real-life scenarios, participants explored different applications of AI tools in academic environments, with particular emphasis on teaching and student support.

Another part of the programme focused on combining Google Scholar with LLM tools, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can support more efficient academic literature searches, the use of relevant scholarly sources, and research activities.

As part of the study visit, participants also visited Campus-Management-System.de, where they were introduced to a practical example of artificial intelligence in a business environment. Particular attention was given to the TrOn-Agent, an AI agent developed within the WaaS (Workforce as a Service) concept, demonstrating how AI agents can perform specific tasks, automate processes, and support employees in their daily work.

The programme continued with the session “LLM Usage for Student Support – Practical Tools & Methods to Enhance Academic Quality and Learning Progress,” delivered by Prof. Dr. Rulf J. Treidel. The session focused on practical methods for using large language models to support students, enhance the quality of academic work, and facilitate learning progress.

The activities demonstrated that the integration of artificial intelligence into higher education goes beyond the adoption of new technologies. It also requires the development of new approaches to teaching, learning, research, and personalised student support.

Through knowledge exchange, hands-on activities, and cooperation among international project partners, the RELIABLE project continues to strengthen AI-related competencies across partner institutions in the Western Balkans and contribute to the development of innovative and student-centred higher education.
